  • 0930 Ready, Set, Grow: Making Marriage Work after DeploymentCommander Charles K. Springle Training Center Bldg 797 (behind Russell Marine & Family Center, Bldg 40).Deployment is over and you are back together, but does it feel as though you and your spouse are “disconnected?” Is communication challenging? Do you struggle with transitioning roles and responsibilities? This FREE workshop, taught by licensed professionals from Military & Family Life Consultants, can help you: learn about the challenges of reuniting and adjusting to post-deployment life, recognize and appreciate the challenges each of you have faced and discover how to communicate, negotiate and create “win-win” solutions. Each 90 minute session is the same. Call the Community Counseling Center at 451-2864 to register for the time slot that best fits your schedule. Open to all authorized patrons.View the flyer!

  • 1830: Juggling During Deployment - Quick & Easy Tips: MCFTB Office Bldg LC 4012-A Butler Drive, Midway Park. In our many roles, it’s easy for us to lose our balance. This interactive workshop is designed to help you learn to maintain time for family, relationships, work, and fun. This workshop will provide you the tools needed to identify, prioritize, and maximize life’s events as well as reduce the stressors associated with them.For more information and registration, call Marine Corps Family Team Building at 451-0176.

  • 1900: SMP Mortal Kombat Night: New River Enlisted Club, Home of SMP . We’re breaking out the big screen to test your mettle in this classic game!   • 0800:  Before "I Do" Marriage Foundation Workshop: MCFTB Office Training Room, LC-4012A (Midway Park Marine & Family Annex) .Before “I Do” Marriage Foundation Workshop: This two-day interactive class teaches couples how to thrive at marriage. Couples will definitely gain a greater understanding of one another, plus learn how to protect and strengthen their love for each other, setting them on course for greater marital success. The Before “I Do” workshop is designed for; engaged couples or couples married less than three years. Call 451-0176 to register. 
  • 0800: Alcohol 101 Workshop: Bldg 302, Health Promotions:  When is the next drink “too much?” What is binge drinking? What’s the big deal?   • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course:  Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730.   •   0800: New River Welcome Aboard Brief: New River Memorial Chapel. Welcome Aboard Briefs are an opportunity for newcomers aboard MCAS New River to become oriented with their new duty station and the surrounding community. In accordance with MCO and ASO 1754.2A all E7 and below and 0-4 and below are required to attend, however, all military, dependents, and DoD personnel are welcome to come.   • 0830: Five Love Languages Workshop: New River Marine & Family Programs Annex - AS-232. Of the countless ways we can show love to one another, five key categories, or five love languages, proved to be universal and comprehensive-everyone has a love language, and we all identify primarily with one of the five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Teach. Join us as we explore the different languages. This class is free and open to all authorized patrons. Call 449-5343 to reserve your spot.
  •  0900: LINKS for Marines: New River Chapel Annex.   L.I.N.K.S. provides participants with the essentials that every Marine needs to make the most of the military lifestyle. We discuss benefits and services the Marine Corps has to offer Marines and families.   • 1730: Fall Fear Factor: Station Library. Tweens and Teens will team up at the library for a Fear Factor game like no other! There will be Physical, Food, and Brain-Bending challenges to conquer in order to be crowned the 2011 Library Fear Factor winner. Soft drinks will be served. Appropriate Halloween costumes are encouraged!! Must sign permission slip at the library front desk. Open to all authorized patrons 10 - 17.(Military dependant ID required.)   • 1830: EFMP: Communication Skills: New River SNCO Club.  This informative workshop covers The Power of Words and Verbal De-escalation. 
  • 1900: SMP MOVIE NIGHT! Station Theater. Check out a completely free movie and snacks at the base theater. The show is completely free so there’s no reason not to check it out!   • 1730: While We Wait Club: New River AS-232.  Children of military families experience a profound impact emotionally as their parent cycles through deployment. This club like atmosphere will be a safe place for children to do "In the Midst" activities. This month the theme will be "Beware of the Wild Things." We will be creating items to send to loved ones who are deployed, playing games, and doing fun activities that emphasize making positive choices when we have difficult feelings. Open to children in kindergarten through 5th grade who have a parent or loved one deployed. Call to reserve your spot today! Space is limited! Call 449-5343 to register.

  15 October- Saturday

  •  1200: PIRATE FEST!!: MCCS Midway Park Community Center FREE! Fun & games for the whole family! Meet real pirates! Argh! Kids – come dressed in your pirate-themed costumes to participate in the costume contest! Food concessions available for purchase. Open to authorized patrons of all ages. View the flyer!

SMP Trip to PANIC ATTACK! in Wilmington, NC -
Brave Wilmington’s most haunted attraction, Panic Attack! It’s the ultimate haunted house with over 30,000 square feet of terrifying thrills, screams galore and more. Just $15 gets you transportation there and back and your ticket into the ultimate scare-fest. For more information on the New River SMP, or to register for events, call 449-5145.
  •  1100: EFMP Family Festival: Bldg AS-232, Marine & Family Programs Annex. Enjoy an afternoon of crafts, games, pumpkin carving, refreshments and fun for all ages. Enter the chilli cook off with prizes awarded for the best chili. Chili should be brought in by 10:30am with judging at 11am followed by chili sampling for all! Call 449-4894 for more information.
  • 1100: Bicycle Safety Course: AS-612 - New River Youth & Teen Activities Center: Bring out your bicycles and helmets to join us for an afternoon of safety related information. PMO will be providing goody bags and give away. There will be a bicycle obstacle course and inspection certificates. Youth will also be able to register their bicycle and receive a license in case your bicycle is ever lost. Light refreshments while supplies last. Open to authorized patrons 4 - 14 years old.   • 1500: Emergency Preparedness Workshop: : MCFTB Training Rm – LC 4012A Butler Dr., Midway Park, Marine & Family Programs Annex. MCFTB presents “Emergency Preparedness.” Safety begins with awareness. This two hour interactive workshop will enable you to be better prepared for potential natural and manmade hazards that can threaten your life. Knowledge is confidence and confidence begins with being informed. Topics covered: Emergency Preparedness against hazards that threaten military families: Creating an Emergency Plan, Creating an Emergency Supply Kit, Knowing where and when to evacuate, Actions to take after a disaster, Helping children cope with disasters, What plans to make for your pet(s).
