  • 0830: Stress Management: Bldg 302, Health Promotions. Experiencing Depression? Apathy? Anger? Anxiety? These feelings are just some of the symptoms stress can cause. Learning to identify the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage daily hassles and major life stressors. Discover new ways to relieve stress and begin the journey towards being stress free. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register. 
  • 0530: Fall Kayaking Tours! Camp Johnson, behind bldg. 104. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through beautiful waterways! Reserve your spot at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge Memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 12 and up. Upcoming Fall Kayaking Tour Dates: Oct: 25. VIEW THE FLYER!


New River:

  • 0930: Family Readiness Assistant/Advisor Training: New River MCFTB, AS - 232. This class is for spouses who are interested in becoming volunteers for their unit and assisting the unit Family Readiness Officer. As a Commander's communication tool, Family Readiness Assistants support the unit by keeping families of Marines better informed about the mission and tasks of that unit. This training is open to all Marine spouses. Topics covered include: communication and resources for families. For more information call 449-5343.

  • 0830: Anger Management Workshop: Health Promotions, Bldg 302.Got Anger? Out of control rage and angry actions cause hurt, pain, and distress. Understanding the root cause of anger can help you transform your life. Learn how to discharge and express anger in appropriate ways.   • 0830: Fighting for your Marriage PREP Workshop - Day 1 of 2: New River MCFTB, Bldg AS-232. Whether engaged, newlyweds or married years, learn strategies that will help you build and/or enhance a wonderful relationship! Come and learn as we share the tremendous joy of connecting. For everyone wanting to be understood, PREP is a simple yet effective tool to bring insight and closeness to your relationship. Your marriage or relationship can be an oasis of acceptance.   • 0800:  Before "I Do" Marriage Foundation Workshop: MCFTB Office Training Room, LC-4012A (Midway Park Marine & Family Annex) .Before “I Do” Marriage Foundation Workshop: This two-day interactive class teaches couples how to thrive at marriage. Couples will definitely gain a greater understanding of one another, plus learn how to protect and strengthen their love for each other, setting them on course for greater marital success. The Before “I Do” workshop is designed for; engaged couples or couples married less than three years. Call 451-0176 to register. 
  • 0900: Making the Right Move, PCS Workshop: Bldg 40, Russel Marine & Family Services, MCCS Relocation Assistance Classroom.  The Making the Right Move Workshop is designed to assist military and family members when making a PCS move within the United States. Topics covered include: travel and pay entitlements, shipping personal property, travel tips, moving with pets, finding appropriate housing, Military OneSource, Military Home Front, and accessing services at the new duty station.   • 1300:  Investment Basics Workshop: Bldg 302. This interactive workshop is designed to help individuals understand the process involved in savings and investment planning. Participants will explore how to develop and maintain realistic savings and investment goals. TSP rules, regulations, and benefits will also be covered.   • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course:  Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730. Meet new people, end the workday on a good note, and, best of all, don’t sit in traffic on Thursdays anymore! Please call 451-5445

This two-hour workshop will demonstrate how to set up a budget to ensure you are not living payday to payday. Find out more about reducing monthly expenses, frugal food shopping, common consumer mistakes, and budgeting strategies. Improve credit scores, utilize PowerPay and set up a debt management prorgram.   •  1000: Pre-school Story Time at the Station Library: Come join us as we read stories, make crafts, and play games. Open to all dependents 3 - 5 years. Call 449-6715 for more information.
  • 1030: LINKS for Parents & Extended Family Members: Camp Geiger - Ivy Hall (Rm 123). L.I.N.K.S. for Marine parents and extended family members focuses on parents and the extended family new to the Marine Corps community. The program offers an orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle, helping the participant better understand the unique challenges military life often presents. With an increased level of understanding comes an increased ability to provide support and advice as the parent or family member of a Marine. For more information call 449-5343/4676.

  • 0830:  How to Avoid Falling for a Jerk or Jerkette: Health Promotions, Bldg 302. Think you have what it takes to select the right partner for a great life-long relationship? “How to Avoid Falling For a Jerk or Jerkette” is designed to help singles and singles-again of all ages with partner selection. Please join us as we empower you to build healthier relationships through the journey of picking a lifetime partner! This free workshop is open all ID cardholders.   • 0900: Budget for Baby Workshop: Bldg 524,Workforce Learning Center at the corner of McHugh & O Street.  The Budget for Baby workshop will teach budgeting techniques & the impact a baby has on a family's finances. A FREE layette is available to all USMC/USN families who attend that class and are expecting a baby. The layettes contain brand name infant items and a handmade blanket.   • 1700: MONGOLIAN BBQ NIGHT!: Lejeune Room at the O'Club. Mongolian BBQ (mong-goh-lee-uh n, bbq) 1. a variety of fresh cut vegetables and meats, with sauces that you pick, sautéed to perfection in Smedley's Café 2. a dish traditionally accompanied by white or fried rice, soup, eggrolls, and garden salad 3. a popular event for the whole family! $.95 per ounce, price includes drink (non alcoholic) and dessert.   • 1830: "Survivor" in the Midst - Military Life "Survival": Bldg 40, Russell Marine & Family Services. Have fun discovering the tools to “Survive” and “Thrive” the challenges of military life. You will learn how to; make small fixes around the home, prepare for emergencies, and overcome challenging communication situations. Experience what “River City” really means. You’ll even learn how to take the stress out of mealtimes and make them fun. You will also get a hands on self-defense demonstration.   • 1000: Crazy Care Packages!: New River AS-232.  Come create a memorable care package! You provide the items for your loved one, and we provide the packing supplies and the fun card making supplies. Children are welcome to come and help pack for mom and dad. This months' themes are "Gobble, Gobble," "Fall Back in Time," and "Chili Today, Hot Tamale ."On site childcare is also available. RSVP at 449-5343 for requirements. A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold this class.
  • 1900: SMP Kostume Kareoke Night! New River Enlisted Club. You better get into character this month! Let the Halloween spirit move you; we’re kicking it up a notch with extra prizes and goodies for anyone brave enough to dress the part for karaoke this month! BEAST OF THE EAST Flag Football Tournament. New River Football Fields.
This is a double elimination flag football tournament. Award for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Register your active duty, dependant, or DoD employee team by October 14 to see who will come out on top. Cost is $200 per team. A minimum of 6 teams paid by 15 October to hold event. Register now at the Youth Sports Office in Bldg AS-202 or call 449-5844/5609 for more information.
  •  1000: Softball Scrimmage Round 2!: New River Softball Fields. The girls beat us last time and we want some revenge! Reserve your space on the SMP Softball team to take on Stacked, a local women’s minor league softball team. The fun kicks off at 1000 at the Enlisted Club softball fields, and we’ll be bbq-ing tons of grub after the game! For more information on the New River SMP, or to register for events, call 449-5145.
