1 November - Tuesday -
 
Camp Lejeune:

  • 0830: Stress Management: Bldg 302, Health Promotions. Experiencing Depression? Apathy? Anger? Anxiety? These feelings are just some of the symptoms stress can cause. Learning to identify the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage daily hassles and major life stressors. Discover new ways to relieve stress and begin the journey towards being stress free. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register. 
  • 0930: Nutrition Workshop: Bldg 510 (Marine Division Training Center, located on N Street). FREE workshop covers healthy food choices; lifestyle and behavioral modifications; macronutrients; nutrition traps, trends & fast food; nutrition for exercise & health; and supplement use & abuse.   • 1000: Well Baby Clinic: MCCS Tarawa Terrace Community Center. The Well Baby Clinic is sponsored by our Visiting Nurses who are there to weigh & measure your child as well as answer any questions about your child's health.   • 0830: Pre-Marital Workshop, Day 1 of 2: New River MCFTB, AS - 232. This 2-day workshop for engaged couples is designed to provide insights and knowledge of the marriage relationship. Discuss topics such as investing in your marriage, what predicts divorce, communication, finanancial responsibility, in-laws and dangerous behavior that all impact the relationship.   • 1300: How to Start a Small Business: New River Marine & Family Annex, AS-232. Ever dreamed of owning your own business? Don't let your dreams fade away. Local experts will lead you down the right path. This is a 3 hour awareness workshop designed to give an overview of starting a business as well as an introduction to business planning. Topics will include: factors to consider, permits and licenses, developing a business plan, tax information, financing sources, where to get assistance, and advantages/disadvantages of owning a business. This workshop is free and open to all active duty, DoD personnel, veterans, and their spouses. For more information call 449-5255. Pre-registration is required at 449-6110.
  •  1300: Stress & Anger Management Classes, Series 5, Part 1 of 4: Marine & Family Services, AS-90. Stress Management Part I : Are you feeling Overwhelmed? Burned out? Stressed out? Why not treat yourself to a stress management workshop. In this first class, you will learn the basic principles of stress management. Call 449-6110 to reserve your seat.

  • 0830: Anger Management Workshop: Health Promotions, Bldg 302. Got Anger? Out of control rage and angry actions cause hurt, pain, and distress. Understanding the root cause of anger can help you transform your life. Learn how to discharge and express anger in appropriate ways. Move towards managing your anger instead of letting your anger control you. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.
  • 0900: MCX GRAND OPENING EVENT!: The wait is over!!! After tearing down walls, building new ones and shifting merchandise...the Main Exchange is COMPLETE.   • 0800: Domestic Violence Training: AS-90, Marine & Family Programs The workshop's goal is the prevention and awareness of domestic violence. The Family Advocacy Program representatives shall provide education, support and awareness information aimed at fostering greater understanding of the risk factors and dynamics of child and domestic abuse. Emphasis is on the prevention, recognition, prompt notification and reporting and availability of responsive services. Special attention should be placed on training military leaders in identifying signs of child and domestic violence and appropriately use FAP referral procedures to address the needs of family violence. Before “I Do” Marriage Foundation Workshop: This two-day interactive class teaches couples how to thrive at marriage. Couples will definitely gain a greater understanding of one another, plus learn how to protect and strengthen their love for each other, setting them on course for greater marital success. The Before “I Do” workshop is designed for; engaged couples or couples married less than three years. Call 451-0176 to register.
  • 1300:  Taking Control of Your Finances: Bldg 302, Health Promotions. This interactive training session covers the basics of starting a personal financial plan. Participants focus on developing realistic and measurable personal financial goals. Maintaining a workable budget to include savings, understanding military pay, and managing your credit/checkbook are further explored. All ID cardholders can register for this free workshop, please call 910-451-2865.

  • 0830: His Needs/ Her Needs Workshop: New River MCFTB, AS-232. This class is designed to help couples understand how to better communicate with each other and build a stronger marriage. Great for couples after a deployment or long separation. For more information or to register, call 449-5343.
  • 0830: Holiday Spending Workshop: Marine & Family Programs, AS-90.The first step in getting control of holiday expenses is deciding how much you can spend. There are four areas in which people spend their money: gifts, entertaining, travel, and decorating. Each of these areas comes with hidden expenses. Start preparing by attending this workshop to assist in putting a budget together for the holidays. Pre-register at Marine & Family Programs or call 449-5259 for more information.

BASIC Training (Building Alcohol Skills Intervention Curriculum) is a “train the trainer” program designed to assist NCOs in providing guidance and direction to junior troops about how to drink responsibly. This Headquarters Marine Corps developed program can be designed to fit the unit’s schedule. This free workshop is open all active duty military. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.

  • 0900: The ABCs of Buying & Selling: Russell Marine & Family Services, Bldg 40. MCCS Relocation Assistance Classroom.Come and learn the basics of Home Buying and Selling. This popular free workshop provides consumer information about what to look for when purchasing a home. A financial advisor is also on hand to provide information about mortgages, interest rates, VA loans and more! A reference library is also available.   • 0900: Budget for Baby Workshop: Workforce Learning Center, bldg 524 at the corner of McHugh and O. The Budget for Baby workshop will teach budgeting techniques & the impact a baby has on a family's finances. A FREE layette is available to all USMC/USN families who attend that class and are expecting a baby. The layettes contain brand name infant items and a handmade blanket.   • 1000: The Rapping Librarian Melvil Dewey performs at MCCS Tarawa Terrace Community Center!! Bring your kids out to see the Rapping Librarian, Melvil Dewey! This hip-hop event will be an experience your kids won't forget. Open to all authorized patrons. Please call 451-3026 for more information. Show starts at 1000.
  • 1130: EFMP Meet and Greet! Russell Marine & Family Services, Bldg 40: Exceptional Family Member Program will be hosting a Meet & Greet gathering the first Friday of every month. Come meet other EFMP families and learn about resources available on base. Free childcare will be available with advance reservation- call 451-2672. Refreshments will be provided.   • 1830: Harry Potter Night!!: Harriotte B Smith Library. Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character for our costume contest; enjoy playing games, making edible crafts, art, movies, refreshments and more. Camp Lejeune:

  •  0600: Team Bass Tournament! : $1,000 Cash Payout Two-person teams fish for Largemouth Bass on the New River and its tributaries. The average prize is $2,500 based on 50 boats. Guarantee $1,000 cash prize per tournament. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Pre-register for $70 or $85 on the day of the event. Sponsor giveaways by drawings, and food and soft drinks are provided at weigh-in. Event open to the public. Active duty teams may participate through the usage of unit funds with permission from the unit’s Special Services Officer. Tournament starts at 0600 or safe light.   • 1400: MCCS Family Ball! Midway Park Community Center AND Tarawa Terrace Community Center! MCCS FAMILY BALL Join us for a military birthday ball celebration for the whole family! Join us at either MCCS Midway Park Community Center or MCCS Tarawa Terrace Community Center (you choose where you’d like to attend). The Family Ball features: • Buffet Dinner • Music & Dancing • Color Guard Performance • Traditional Birthday Cake Ceremony Guests will also have the opportunity to have family portraits taken and photo packages will be available for purchase (cash or check only). Open to all authorized patrons. Cost: $7 per person ages 11 and up; $5 per person ages 3-10; Free ages 2 and under.   • 0800: Cooperative Parenting & Divorce Workshop:  This workshop offers valuable insights to couples going through a divorce. There’s probably not a more stressful time for both parents and children. This free workshop gives separated and divorcing parents the power to make positive changes to shield children from conflict and help establish a positive, long term relationship with the child’s other parent.
