  • 0830: Stress Management: Bldg 302, Health Promotions. Experiencing Depression? Apathy? Anger? Anxiety? These feelings are just some of the symptoms stress can cause. Learning to identify the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage daily hassles and major life stressors.   • 0930: Nutrition Workshop: Bldg 510 (Marine Division Training Center, located on N Street). FREE workshop covers healthy food choices; lifestyle and behavioral modifications; macronutrients; nutrition traps, trends & fast food; nutrition for exercise & health; and supplement use & abuse.   • 0830: Pre-Marital Workshop, Day 1 of 2: New River MCFTB, AS - 232. This 2-day workshop for engaged couples is designed to provide insights and knowledge of the marriage relationship. Discuss topics such as investing in your marriage, what predicts divorce, communication, finanancial responsibility, in-laws and dangerous behavior that all impact the relationship.   • 1300: How to Start a Small Business: New River Marine & Family Annex, AS-232. Ever dreamed of owning your own business? Don't let your dreams fade away. Local experts will lead you down the right path. This is a 3 hour awareness workshop designed to give an overview of starting a business as well as an introduction to business planning. Topics will include: factors to consider, permits and licenses, developing a business plan, tax information, financing sources, where to get assistance, and advantages/disadvantages of owning a business.   • 0800: Domestic Violence Training: AS-90, Marine & Family Programs The workshop's goal is the prevention and awareness of domestic violence. The Family Advocacy Program representatives shall provide education, support and awareness information aimed at fostering greater understanding of the risk factors and dynamics of child and domestic abuse. Emphasis is on the prevention, recognition, prompt notification and reporting and availability of responsive services. Special attention should be placed on training military leaders in identifying signs of child and domestic violence and appropriately use FAP referral procedures to address the needs of family violence.   • 1300:  Taking Control of Your Finances: Bldg 302, Health Promotions. This interactive training session covers the basics of starting a personal financial plan. Participants focus on developing realistic and measurable personal financial goals.   • 0830: Holiday Spending Workshop: Marine & Family Programs, AS-90.The first step in getting control of holiday expenses is deciding how much you can spend. There are four areas in which people spend their money: gifts, entertaining, travel, and decorating. Each of these areas comes with hidden expenses.   • 0900: The ABCs of Buying & Selling: Russell Marine & Family Services, Bldg 40. MCCS Relocation Assistance Classroom.Come and learn the basics of Home Buying and Selling. This popular free workshop provides consumer information about what to look for when purchasing a home. A financial advisor is also on hand to provide information about mortgages, interest rates, VA loans and more! A reference library is also available.   • 0900: Budget for Baby Workshop: Workforce Learning Center, bldg 524 at the corner of McHugh and O. The Budget for Baby workshop will teach budgeting techniques & the impact a baby has on a family's finances. A FREE layette is available to all USMC/USN families who attend that class and are expecting a baby. The layettes contain brand name infant items and a handmade blanket.   • 1000: The Rapping Librarian Melvil Dewey performs at MCCS Tarawa Terrace Community Center!! Bring your kids out to see the Rapping Librarian, Melvil Dewey! Camp Lejeune:

  •  0600: Team Bass Tournament! : $1,000 Cash Payout Two-person teams fish for Largemouth Bass on the New River and its tributaries. The average prize is $2,500 based on 50 boats. Guarantee $1,000 cash prize per tournament. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Pre-register for $70 or $85 on the day of the event. Sponsor giveaways by drawings, and food and soft drinks are provided at weigh-in. Event open to the public. Active duty teams may participate through the usage of unit funds with permission from the unit’s Special Services Officer. Tournament starts at 0600 or safe light.   • 0530: Fall Kayaking Tours! Camp Johnson, behind bldg. 104. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through beautiful waterways! Reserve your spot at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge Memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 12 and up. How should you react? How can we help our children have better behavior in any situation? This daytime workshop presented by Butterfly Effects for parents, educators and childcare providers will provide insight into the actions of those more challenging children and what they can do to alleviate some of the problems.   • 0800: New River Welcome Aboard Brief: New River Enlisted Club. Welcome Aboard Briefs are an opportunity for newcomers aboard MCAS New River to become oriented with their new duty station and the surrounding community. In accordance with MCO and ASO 1754.2A all E7 and below and 0-4 and below are required to attend, however, all military, dependents, and DoD personnel are welcome to come.   • 0900: Family Care Plan Workshop: New River MCFTB - AS-232. Find out how valuable the Family Care Plan is, and the components it contains. Legal will be on hand to discuss the different kinds of wills and notarize powers of attorney. *Marine Corps Order 1740.13A requires all single-parent Marines and dual active duty military couples to complete a Family Care Plan.   •  1300: Effects of Divorce/Remarriage on Children: New River MCFTB, AS-232. This is a three hour class to educate parents about the possible impact of divorce on children when they are coping with the painful and agonizing breakup of their family. Topics of discussion include typical reactions of children of different ages, things children need to know and hear, tips for single parenting again, and what both parents can do to help their children deal with and adjust to the losses and changes involved. Issues surrounding the remarriage of one or both parents will also be presented and tips to help step-parents and children adjust to a new family. Call 449-6110 to reserve your seat. A shorter class is available for interested command or other agency training purposes.
  • 1700: CHILDRENS' HALLOWEEN PARTY!: New River Enlisted Club. Join us for our annual childrens' Halloween Party! We'll also have crafts, games & prizes, pony rides, inflatables, face painting, colorful hairspray, scary ghost stories, and a mummy wrapping competition. No registration necessary. Learning to identify the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage daily hassles and major life stressors.   • 0530: Fall Kayaking Tours! Camp Johnson, behind bldg. 104. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through beautiful waterways!   • 0930: Family Readiness Assistant/Advisor Training: New River MCFTB, AS - 232. This class is for spouses who are interested in becoming volunteers for their unit and assisting the unit Family Readiness Officer. As a Commander's communication tool, Family Readiness Assistants support the unit by keeping families of Marines better informed about the mission and tasks of that unit. This training is open to all Marine spouses. Topics covered include: communication and resources for families. For more information call 449-5343.

Couples will definitely gain a greater understanding of one another, plus learn how to protect and strengthen their love for each other, setting them on course for greater marital success.   • 0900: Making the Right Move, PCS Workshop: Bldg 40, Russel Marine & Family Services, MCCS Relocation Assistance Classroom.  The Making the Right Move Workshop is designed to assist military and family members when making a PCS move within the United States.   • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course:  Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730. L.I.N.K.S. for Marine parents and extended family members focuses on parents and the extended family new to the Marine Corps community. The program offers an orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle, helping the participant better understand the unique challenges military life often presents. BEAST OF THE EAST Flag Football Tournament. New River Football Fields.
This is a double elimination flag football tournament. Award for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Register your active duty, dependant, or DoD employee team by October 14 to see who will come out on top. Cost is $200 per team. A minimum of 6 teams paid by 15 October to hold event. Register now at the Youth Sports Office in Bldg AS-202 or call 449-5844/5609 for more information.
  •  1000: Softball Scrimmage Round 2!: New River Softball Fields. The girls beat us last time and we want some revenge! Reserve your space on the SMP Softball team to take on Stacked, a local women’s minor league softball team.
