Events, Workshops, and Activities aboard Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River!

  23 August - Tuesday
Camp Lejeune:

  • 1700: Kayak in the Sun: Camp Johnson, behind Bldg M104. FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18. 
  • 1830: Emergency Preparedness Workshop! MCFTB office, Bldg LC 4102 A, Midway Park. MCFTB presents “Emergency Preparedness.” Safety begins with awareness. This two hour interactive workshop will enable you to be better prepared for potential natural and manmade hazards that can threaten your life. Knowledge is confidence and confidence begins with being informed. Hints for creating an emergency plan and an emergency supply kit will also be covered! Don't miss it! 

  • 1830: Suicide Awareness for Families. Rm 106. Russell Marine & Family Services - Building 40.  Never leaving a Marine behind extends beyond the battlefield and beyond the base. Strong, knowledgeable, and aware families can identify when someone is in need, and step in to help before it’s too late. It is often difficult to recognize the signs of severe depression among adults and adolescents. Gaining a better understanding of the problem, and learning what tools and resources are available can help save lives. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders.   • 1830: Challenging Children Workshop! Functional Communication. Russell Marine & Family Services (Bldg 40), Rm 139. This free workshop will provide techniques for parents, childcare providers and educators to manage difficult behaviors. This free monthly workshop held on the 4th Tuesday of every month, is open to all ID card holders. Free childcare information will be shared upon registration please call 451-4103. (If you can’t make the evening workshops, we’ll be offering a daytime series as well. Please call 451-4103 for more information.)

New River:
  • 0900: Extreme Everyday Couponing for Real Families!: Bldg AS-232, MCFTB. Save Money in today's economy by using available coupons. This Workshop will include a Couponing workshop offered by CAT5 (a Couponing Club) and a section on budgeting as well as a "coupon swap". Open to all authorized patrons. Call 449-5343 for more information.
  • 0930: Budget for Baby Workshop: Bldg 232, New River Navy-Marine Corps Relief. Learn how to budget for the arrival of your little one. This class is offered by Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and is free to all authorized patrons. Both parents are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory. Call 449-6431 at least 48 hours prior to the class to reserve your spot.
  •  1900: SMP: Calling All Pool Sharks Tournament! New River Enlisted Club. Got pool skills? We wanna see ‘em in our great free monthly billiards tournament. Stop by and sign up today and the winner will walk away with a fantastic prize!

Camp Lejeune:

  • 1100: Challenging Children Workshop - Choosing Your Battles: Bldg 40, Rm 139. Russell Marine & Family Services. What can you do when your child starts screaming in a crowded area for no reason? How should you react? How can we help our children have better behavior in any situation? This daytime workshop presented by Butterfly Effects for parents, educators and childcare providers will provide insight into the actions of those more challenging children and what they can do to alleviate some of the problems. New River: 

  • SMP BARRACKS BASH! New River Auxillary Field. Get outside and join SMP for some outdoor fun and games! Enjoy the warmer weather with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks We’ll have tons of fun activities and toys, great music and more!

  25 August- Thursday
Camp Lejeune

**********Customer Appreciation Day at Paradise Point Golf Course************
  • 0830: Alcohol 101 Workshop: Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd, Health PromotionsWhen is the next drink “too much?” What is binge drinking? What’s the big deal? Arming yourself with knowledge is the key to preventing alcohol related tragedies and letting alcohol negatively impact your life. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.
  • 1300: Taking Control of Your Finances: Bldg 302, Holcomb Blvd. This interactive training session covers the basics of starting a personal financial plan. Participants focus on developing realistic and measurable personal financial goals. Maintaining a workable budget to include savings, understanding military pay, and managing your credit/checkbook are further explored. All ID cardholders can register for this free workshop, please call 910-451-2865.
  • 1300: Kayak in the Sun. Onslow Beach ICW. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18. 
  • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course:  Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730. Meet new people, end the workday on a good note, and, best of all, don’t sit in traffic on Thursdays anymore! Please call 451-5445
  • 1830: Kids & Reunion Workshop for Parents & Children: Bldg 40, Russell Marine & Family Services, Rm 124 & 136This is two workshops in one: a parent and kid’s workshop for kids ages 4-18. This FREE workshop is designed to offer parents as well as children resources and coping skills needed to assist them with family reintegration. Please call 910-451-0176 to pre-register.
New River: 
  • 0800: New River Welcome Aboard Brief: New River Enlisted Club. Welcome Aboard Briefs are an opportunity for newcomers aboard MCAS New River to become oriented with their new duty station and the surrounding community. In accordance with MCO and ASO 1754.2A all E7 and below and 0-4 and below are required to attend, however, all military, dependents, and DoD personnel are welcome to come.   • 0900: Family Care Plan Workshop: AS-232- MCFTB Find out how valuable the Family Care Plan is, and the components it contains. Legal will be on hand to discuss the different kinds of wills and notarize powers of attorney. *Marine Corps Order 1740.13A requires all single-parent Marines and dual active duty military couples to complete a Family Care Plan.   • 1000: Pre-School Story Time at the Station Library: Come join us as we read stories, make crafts, and play games. Open to all dependents 3 - 5 years. Call 449-6715 for more information

  • 0830: RELAX!!: Bldg 302, Health PromotionsSlow down. Take a rest. Breathe. Relax. Discover new ways to let go. Find ways to enter into deep, peaceful, mindful relaxation. Learn new techniques that will help you give your stress wings and let it all fly away. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.
  • 1830: FREE Movie Night! Ramona & Beezus: MCCS Tarawa Terrace Community Center. Ramona and Beezus - Rated G. Bring the family out for a free movie night and light refreshments. Call 450-1687. Open to all authorized patrons
  • 2000: FlashBack Fridays! Good Vibrations Bash at Onslow Beach: FREE! DJ, music & fun. August theme: beach/shag music. Bring your own chairs, blankets, coolers, etc. No glass permitted.   • 2000: SMP Evolution of Music Night! New River Enlisted Club.Dress up in your favorite old school gear and rock the night away with us! Prizes for best costume, dance battles, Name That Tune, karaoke and more music mania will be up for grabs all night long!! Open to all active duty and their guests 18 and over.

  •  1500: End of Summer Celebration: Midway Park Community Center. FREE! Watermelon eating contest, games, prizes, picnic (ticket required), DJ, face painting, and more! Kids – wear your swimsuits for some water fun! Register for picnic ticket in person at MCCS Midway Park Community Center by 24 Aug. Open to authorized patrons.   • 1700: O'Club Low Country Boil! Smedley's Cafe. Our low country boil dinner will be served family style at your table. Featuring fresh peel n’ eat shrimp, crab, new potatoes, corn on the cob, and smoked sausage, with a side salad, and hush puppies. Price does not include beverage.   •   0900: Babysitter's Training Class. New River Youth and Teen Activity Center. Babysitter's Training is an American Red Cross Certification class. If you are between the ages of 11 and 18 years, and would like to acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants and school-aged children, this class is for you. The training combines video, activities, hands-on training and discussions for a complete learning experience. The babysitter's course helps you interview for a babysitting job, choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, learn diapering and feeding techniques, handle bedtime issues, and learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience. We are now also offering CPR and First Aid with this class. This class has a non-refundable $35 registration fee due by August 19. For more information or to register, call 449-6711.
  • 0900: LINKS for Spouses. New River LINKS, Bldg 233 Looking for something new and different? Come and learn about the military way of life! This event is a two day workshop. Free and open to any and all spouses of our military branches. For more information, call 449-4676/5343.

  • 1100: SMP Marina Fun Day! Station Marina, Area 2. Join SMP for some fun in the sun down at the marina! Enjoy free food, great door prizes, and a chance to ride jet skis, canoes, kayaks and play with other water toys completely free of charge!!

  • 1100: Bicycle Safety Course. New River Youth & Teen Activity Center. Bring out your bicycles and helmets to join us for an afternoon of safety related information. PMO will be providing goody bags and give away. There will be a bicycle obstacle course and inspection certificates. Youth will also be able to register their bicycle and receive a license in case your bicycle is ever lost. Light refreshments while supplies last. Open to authorized patrons 4 - 14 years old.   • 2100: UFC Fight Night! New River Enlisted Club. Check out UFC Pay Per View #134, Silva vs. Okami. Enjoy free food while supplies last and great drink specials all night long!!
