Events, Workshops, and Activities aboard Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River!


  16 August - Tuesday
Camp Lejeune:


  • 0830: Stress Management Workshop: Bldg 302, Holcomb Blvd, Health Promotions. Learning to identify the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage daily hassles and major life stressors. Discover new ways to relieve stress and begin the journey towards being stress free. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.
  • 1700: Kayak in the Sun: Camp Johnson, behind Bldg M104. FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18. 
  • 1830: TOWN HALL MEETING! Russell Marine & Family Services Center, Bldg 40, Auditorium. Col. Lecce will hold a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the status of the school and the construction issues. The school is still expected to open on Thu, 1 Sep with some conditions. Light refreshments. Free childcare will be provided at the Brewster CDC - call 449-9552 to register. New River:
  • 1100: Kid's Day 2011: Station Theater and Chapel Parking Lot. Music, games, food, prizes, and more! We will also have 400 backpacks filled with school supplies (must have ID). Call 449-6577 for more information  
  • 1300: How to Start a Small Business: Bldg 232, Marine & Family Programs Annex. Local experts will lead you down the right path. This is a 3 hour awareness workshop designed to give an overview of starting a business as well as an introduction to business planning. Topics will include: factors to consider, permits and licenses, developing a business plan, tax information, financing sources, where to get assistance, and advantages/disadvantages of owning a business. This workshop is free and open to all active duty, DoD personnel, veterans, and their spouses. Call 449-6110 to register.
  • 1700: Intramural Bowling Organizational Meeting: New River Bowling Center. Open to all active duty stationed aboard New River, their dependants, and New River DoD employees 18 and over. Call 449-0294/5609
  •  1800: Ready, Set, GO! Back to School: AS-232, Marine & Family Programs Annex. School is in session. Tips for a successful first day! Open to all authorized patrons. For more information, call 449-4702 or email jill.campbell@usmc.mil 
  •  1900: SMP Ping Pong Tournament! New River Enlisted Club. Got pong skills? We wanna see ‘em in our great free monthly table tennis tournament. Stop by and sign up today and the winner will walk away with a fantastic prize!

Camp Lejeune:

  • 0830: Anger Management Workshop: Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd, Health Promotions. Out of control rage and angry actions cause hurt, pain, and distress. Understanding the root cause of anger can help you transform your life. Learn how to discharge and express anger in appropriate ways. Move towards managing your anger instead of letting your anger control you. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.
  • 0900: ABCs of Home Buying & Selling: MCCS Relocation Assistance Program Classroom,  Bldg 40, Russell Marine & Family Services Center. Come and learn the basics of Home Buying and Selling. This popular free workshop provides consumer information about what to look for when purchasing a home. A financial advisor is also on hand to provide information about mortgages, interest rates, VA loans and more! A reference library is also available. New River:
  • SMP NYC TRIP REGISTRATION DEADLINE! Get your name on our list NOW for this great trip! Just $200 gets you transportation, 3 nights hotel and an unlimited ride subway pass for New York City! The trip will take place over Labor Day weekend, 2-5 September. Open to all active duty. 
  • 0830: Baby Boot Camp - Day 1 of 2: AS-232, Marine & Family Programs Annex. Mom and Dad learn how to make a smooth transition into parenthood. This is a hands-on experience for parents who are pregnant or have new arrivals. Class will cover information from birth to one year. For more information call 449-4866/4867.   • 0900: Family Readiness Assistant/Advisor Training: AS-232, MCFTB. This class is for spouses who are interested in becoming volunteers for their unit and assisting the unit Family Readiness Officer. As a Commander's communication tool, Family Readiness Assistants support the unit by keeping families of Marines better informed about the mission and tasks of that unit. This training is open to all Marine spouses. Topics covered include: communication and resources for families.

  • 0800: Before "I Do": Marriage Foundation Workshop - Day 1: MCFTB Office Training Room, LC-4012A (Midway Park Marine & Family Annex). This two-day interactive class teaches couples how to thrive at marriage. Couples will definitely gain a greater understanding of one another, plus learn how to protect and strengthen their love for each other, setting them on course for greater marital success. The Before “I Do” workshop is designed for; engaged couples or couples married less than three years. Call 451-0176 to register. 
  • 1300: Investment Basics: Bldg 302, Holcomb Blvd. This interactive workshop is designed to help individuals understand the process involved in savings and investment planning. Participants will explore how to develop and maintain realistic savings and investment goals. TSP rules, regulations, and benefits will also be covered. All ID cardholders can register for this free workshop, please call 910-451-2865.
  • 1300: Kayak in the Sun. Onslow Beach ICW. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18. 
  • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course:  Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730. Meet new people, end the workday on a good note, and, best of all, don’t sit in traffic on Thursdays anymore! Please call 451-5445
  • 1830: Kids & Reunion Workshop for Parents & Children: Bldg 40, Russell Marine & Family Services, Rm 124 & 136. This is two workshops in one: a parent and kid’s workshop for kids ages 4-18. This FREE workshop is designed to offer parents as well as children resources and coping skills needed to assist them with family reintegration. Please call 910-451-0176 to pre-register.

  • 0900: Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department Testing FREE: AS-233 New River Chapel Annex. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will be administering the Darany Entry Level Police Officer Examination on MCAS New River FREE OF CHARGE. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing a Law Enforcement career to assess where their strengths and weaknesses are. There will be a short presentation before the test begins and a period for questions and answers. You do not need to be interested in staying in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area to take this test. Open to all active duty, DoD personnel, veterans and their spouses. Pre-registration is required by August 17 at 449- 6110.
  • 1300: Effects of Divorce/Remarriage on Children: This is a three hour class to educate parents about the possible impact of divorce on children when they are coping with the painful and agonizing breakup of their family. Topics of discussion include typical reactions of children of different ages, things children need to know and hear, tips for single parenting again, and what both parents can do to help their children deal with and adjust to the losses and changes involved. Issues surrounding the remarriage of one or both parents will also be presented and tips to help step-parents and children adjust to a new family. Call 449-6110 to reserve your seat. A shorter class is available for interested command or other agency training purposes.
  • 1500: SMP COUNCIL MEETING: New River Enlisted Club
  • 1900: SMP Movie Night! Station Theater. Check out a completely free movie and snacks at the base theater. The show is completely free so there’s no reason not to check it out! Doors open at 1830, movie starts at 1900. Open to all active duty and their guests 18 and over..

  19 August- Friday
Camp Lejeune:

  • 0900: Budget for Baby Workshop: Bldg 524, Workforce Learning Center - corner of McHugh & O Street. The Budget for Baby workshop will teach budgeting techniques & the impact a baby has on a family's finances. A FREE layette is available to all USMC/USN families who attend that class and are expecting a baby. The layettes contain brand name infant items and a handmade blanket. Call 451-5346/5584 to register. Class is available to all active duty , retirees & dependents with valid military ID
  • 1400: Fall Planting Workshop: Harriotte B Smith Library .Learn the benefits and challenges of a fall vegetable garden, plus unique tips for a successful fall garden Guest Speaker: Lisa Rayburn, Horticultural Extension Agent from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Office. Bring your gardening questions and enjoy this free presentation. Ages 18- and up. Refreshments served Registration Required 451-3026. 

  • 1700: Kayak in the Sun. Courthouse Bay Marina. Enjoy a FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18. 

New River:


  • 1000: EFMP Kids Social!: AS-232. This new program will provide exceptional children and their siblings playgroup with social time, LEGOS, games and activities. Open to all EFMP children and their families. Call 449-4894 to register or email to boothgl@usmc-mccs.org.
  • 1000: Crazy Care Packages!: AS-232, Marine & Family Services. Come create a memorable care package! You provide the items for your loved one, and we provide the packing supplies and the fun card making supplies. Children are welcome to come and help pack for mom and dad. This months' themes are "Let's Go to the Movies," "Boredom Buster," and "Are You Ready For Some Football." This workshop is open to all authoirzed patrons, pre-register at 449-5343.
  • 2200: SMP Dance Battle Club Night! New River Enlisted Club.Get ready for crazy fun, tons of music and more! Tonight’s entertainment will be dance battles, so you better bring your A Game!! 
20 August- Saturday
Camp Lejeune:




  •  0900: Family Fun Run: Tarawa Terrace Community Center. Join us once a month for a FREE Family Run/Walk. Every run includes a 5K option in addition to the scheduled run/walk distance. Open to all authorized patrons. For more information, please call 910-450-1687. View the flyer!
  • 1000: Ready, Set, Go! Kindergarten! Bldg 40 Russell & Marine Family Services Center Auditorium. Make the first year of school, easy as A, B, C and 1, 2, 3 for you and your child. This interactive, informative and resource filled fair will be a great chance for you to meet other parents, connect your child to others who are going to school for the first time and have a blast learning together. We’ll talk about school bus safety, nutrition, fashion, and more. The Ready, Set, Go to Kindergarten Fair is open to all authorized patrons who have rising kindergarteners and the soon to be students. We’ll have fun with the kids and make it easy for the parents to gather all they need to know about the first year of school. For more information, please call 910-382-5639.
  • 1030: Dodgeball Tournament: Courthouse Bay Fitness Center. FREE! Registration Deadline: 19 Aug. Free food to all participants. Six per team, double elimination. Trophies to top 3 teams. To register: submit team name and phone number to Courthouse Bay Recreation Center or Courthouse Bay Fitness Center or call 910-440-7447.
  • 1300: Before & After School Childcare Open House: Stone Street Youth Pavilion & Tarawa Terrace Youth Pavilion. Open for parents who have children attending any of the DoD Primary, Elementary, and Middle Schools. Parent and students will have the opportunity to tour the facilities, ask questions, learn about School Age Care programming, and day to day operations and expectations.  
  • 2000: SEASIDE CINEMA! Family Friendly Movie. Onslow Beach Enlisted Pavilion. FREE family-friendly movies at the beach! Open to all authorized patrons. Meet at the Enlisted Pavilion. For more info, call 910-440-6546 Click here to view the flyer!

  •   0630: SMP Kings Dominion Trip! Departs from New River Enlisted Club. Just $31 reserves your seat for our next trip to King’s Dominion! They’ve got the most hair-raising rides, the wettest water park, the most sizzling stage shows and tons of other cool stuff for everyone to enjoy. Whichever you like, we’ve got you covered! Depart the E’Club at 0630, return approximately 0130 Sunday morning. You must register by Wednesday, 17 August. Open to all active duty.
  • 0900: Beyond the Brief: Safe & Sound at Home: AS-232 Military Spouses spend a lot of time alone. This class was designed to give spouses the knowledge they need to help keep them safe. Topics include home and personal safety, as well as Self Defense. Free on-site childcare is available. Please call 449-5343 for details.
