What's Happening? 25 July - 1 August 2011 on Camp Lejeune & MCAS New River

Events, Workshops, and Activities aboard Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River!


  26 July- Tuesday
Camp Lejeune:



  • 1700: Kayak in the Sun: Camp Johnson, behind Bldg M104. FREE scenic one-hour guided tour through Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18.

  • 1830: Challenging Children Workshop - Easy to Use Methods: Russell Marine & Family Services - Bldg 40, Rm 139. This free monthly workshop held on the 4th Tuesday of every month, is open to all ID card holders. Free childcare information will be shared upon registration please call 451-4103. (If you can’t make the evening workshops, we’ll be offering a daytime series as well. Please call 451-4103 for more information.)
New River:
  • 0930: Budget for Baby Workshop: As-232. Learn how to budget for the arrival of your little one. This class is offered by Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and is free to all authorized patrons. Both parents are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory. Call 449-6431 at least 48 hours prior to the class to reserve your spot. 
  • 1300: Stress & Anger Management Classes: AS-90  Stress Management Part 3 : Conflict Resolution. The third class in our four part series focuses on handling and resolving conflicts both in the home and in the workplace. To reserve your seat call us at 449-6110.  
  • 1730: Extreme Couponing for Everyday Families: Bldg AS-232. Save Money in today's economy by using available coupons. This Workshop will include a Couponing workshop offered by CAT5 (a Couponing Club) and a section on budgeting as well as a "coupon swap". Open to all authorized patrons. Call 449-5343 for more information.

  • 0830: Baby Boot Camp - Day 1 of 2: As-232, MCFTB. Mom and Dad learn how to make a smooth transition into parenthood. This is a hands-on experience for parents who are pregnant or have new arrivals. Class will cover information from birth to one year. For more information call 449-4866/4867. Pre-registration is required.

  • Federal Employment Overview Workshop: Bldg - AS-212. Do you want to work for the federal government? Ever wondered what kinds of jobs there are, how to apply or what types of benefits they have? This class will go over the different types of agencies, positions and hiring practices of various federal agencies. Topics discussed will include: How to read a vacancy announcement, website resources, Veterans and Spousal Preference and civil service benefits. Open to all active duty, DoD personnel, veterans and their spouses. Pre-registration is required at 449-6110.

  • 1300: Federal Resume Workshop: AS-212, Bldg 110. Curious on what a federal style resume is? Learn websites for federal agencies and online resume builders like USAJOBS. Find out how to format your resume, where to look for key words and how to navigate the application process to get results! All active duty, DoD personnel, veterans and their spouses. Pre-register at 449-6110.

Price includes garlic bread sticks and garden salad, a non-alcoholic beverage. Open to all authorized O'Club patrons. $9.95 Adults, Children 4-10, $5.95, Children 3 and under eat free!   • 1700: Twisted Thursdays at Paradise Point Golf Course: Want to skip traffic on Thursday afternoons? Stop by Paradise Point Golf Course every Thursday for Twisted Thursdays and say goodbye to traffic! Enjoy a different format each week with no restrictions. The $12 entry fee includes your greens fee and cart rental. Show time is 1700, tee off at 1730. Meet new people, end the workday on a good note, and, best of all, don’t sit in traffic on Thursdays anymore!
New River:
  • 0800: New River Welcome Aboard Brief.  New River Enlisted Club. Welcome Aboard Briefs are an opportunity for newcomers aboard MCAS New River to become oriented with their new duty station and the surrounding community. In accordance with MCO and ASO 1754.2A all E7 and below and 0-4 and below are required to attend, however, all military, dependents, and DoD personnel are welcome to come. For more information call Marine & Family Programs at 449-5258.

  • 0900: Family Care Plan Workshop: Bldg AS-232. You've gotta have one, so learn how to do it the right way! Find out how valuable the Family Care Plan is, and the components it contains. Legal will be on hand to discuss the different kinds of wills and notarize powers of attorney. *Marine Corps Order 1740.13A requires all single-parent Marines and dual active duty military couples to complete a Family Care Plan.   • 1000: Pre-School Story Time at the Station Library. Come join us as we read stories, make crafts, and play games. Open to all dependents 3 - 5 years. Call 449-6715 for more information.

  • 1800: SMP GAME SHOW NIGHT! New River Enlisted Club. Come check out our newest event, game show night! You never know what you might have to do on Game Show Night; it could be trivia, you might "Make a Deal" or guess if the "Price is Right"! The one thing we know for sure? Fun times and great prizes are guaranteed! Open to all active duty and their guests 18 and over. 449-5145 for information.
