Events, Workshops, and Activities aboard Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River!

May 16 - Monday
Camp Lejeune:

New River:
  • 1030: LINKS for Parents & Extended Family Members - New River Chapel Annex. The program offers an orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle, helping the participant better understand the unique challenges military life often presents. With an increased level of understanding comes an increased ability to provide support and advice as the parent or family member of a Marine. For more information call 449-5343/4676.

Camp Lejeune:
  • 0830: Stress management Workshop - Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd (Health Promotions). Identifying the causes and symptoms of stress can help you successfully manage life's daily struggles as well as major stressors. Discover new ways to relieve stress! Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.

  • 1700: Kayak In the Sun: Camp Johnson (behind BOQ). A FREE scenic kayaking tour of Camp Lejeune's waterways! Register at the Outdoor Adventures Office in Goettge memorial Field House. First come, first served. Space is limited. Kayaking is open to all authorized patrons ages 10 and up. Parent/Guardian must accompany children ages 10-18.

  • 1900: Tornado Recovery Support Group: Bldg TT-2461, CREDO office. Meetings will be held each Tuesday throughout May. Childcare available via vouchers for registered children. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please call 450-1668.
New River:
  • 1300: Stress & Anger Management Classes, Series 2, Part 3 of 4: AS-90, Marine & Family Services. Conflict Resolution. The third class in our four part series focuses on handling and resolving conflicts both in the home and in the workplace. To reserve your seat call us at 449-6110.

  • 1800: EFMP: Basics of Autism & Current Treatments: AS-232, EFMP Classroom. This workshop will focus on providing caregivers with a basic understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders including the causes, symptoms, and research based treatments.   • 0830: Anger Management Workshop: Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd., Health Promotions. Understanding the root cause of anger can help you transform your life. Learn how to discharge and express anger in appropriate ways. Move towards managing your anger instead of letting your anger control you. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders.   • 0900: Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Observance: Marston Pavilion, Tinian Room. The event speakers are Col Best from the USMC Public Affairs Office at Camp Lejeune and Mark Q.   • 0800: Command Financial Training, Day 1: AS-233 New River Chapel Annex. This 3-day course is designed to educate a Command Financial Specialist, an in-house expert, for each squadron/unit aboard the air station. This course will teach Command Financial Specialists personal budgeting techniques, how to handle and manage debt, techniques for car buying, consumer rights, maintaining and correcting personal credit, bankruptcy laws, saving strategies, investing basics and risks, and much more. Each CFS will receive free personal financial management software to help them serve their fellow Marines and Sailors. Pre-registratio​n is required. Call 449-6110 to reserve a class seat.

  • 0830: PREP Couples Workshop, Day 1: AS-232. Whether engaged, newlyweds or married years, learn strategies that will help you build and/or enhance a wonderful relationship! SPACE IS LIMITED. For more information or to register, call 449-5343.

  • 0830: Baby Boot Camp, Day 1 of 2: AS-233 New River Chapel Annex. Mom and Dad learn how to make a smooth transition into parenthood. This is a hands-on experience for parents who are pregnant or have new arrivals. Class will cover information from birth to one year. For more information call 449-4866/4867.   • 1100: EFMP Focus Group: AS-232, EFMP Classroom. Focus Group of parents and caregivers experiencing the challenges and unique joys of caring for a person on the autism spectrum. Free childcare with advanced registration. Call 449-4894 to register or email boothgl@usmc-mc​cs.org

Camp Lejeune:
  • 0830: Alcohol 101 Workshop: Bldg 302, Holcomb Blvd, Health Promotions. When is the next drink "too much"? What's the big deal? Arming yourself with knowledge is the key to preventing alcohol related tragedies and letting alcohol negatively impact your life. This free workshop is open all ID cardholders.   • 0900: Moving Overseas Workshop: Bldg 40, Russell Marine & Family Services. An overview of the process and procedures involved when performing a PCS transfer to an overseas location. Topics covered include: travel and pay entitlements, shipping personal property, POV entitlements, moving tips, cultural aspects, COLA, housing information, passport requirements, Military OneSource, Military Home Front and accessing services at the new duty station.   • 1100: Holocaust Remembrance: Bldg 524 Workforce Learning Center. An annual commemoration of the Holocaust--View the video "Why we remember the Holocaust".   • 1300: Investment Basics. Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd. This interactive workshop is designed to help individuals understand the process involved in savings and investment planning. Participants will explore how to develop and maintain realistic savings and investment goals. TSP rules, regulations, and benefits will also be covered.   • 0800: BASIC - Building Alcohol Skills Intervention Course: Bldg 302 Holcomb Blvd., Health Promotions. A “train the trainer” program designed to assist NCOs in providing guidance and direction to junior troops about how to drink responsibly. This Headquarters Marine Corps developed program can be designed to fit the unit’s schedule. This free workshop is open all active duty military. Please call Health Promotion, 451-2865 to register.

  • 0900: Budget for Baby Workshop: Bldg 524, Workforce Learning Center (Corner of McHugh & O). The Budget for Baby workshop will teach budgeting techniques & the impact a baby has on a family's finances. A FREE layette is available to all USMC/USN families who attend that class and are expecting a baby. The layettes contain brand name infant items and a handmade blanket.   • 0800: Command Financial Training - Day 3 - Final Day. New River Chapel Annex

  • 1730: While We Wait Club: Camp Out: AS-233, New River Chapel Annex. This club like atmosphere will be a safe place for children to do "In the Midst" activities. This month the theme will be "Camp Out." We will be participating in fun camping activities while emphasizing making positive choices and communication, creating items to send to the parent, and healthy ways to express our feelings. Open to authorized patrons grades 1 - 5 who have a parent deployed or away. Call 449-5343 to register.

  • 1800: EFMP: Family Movie Night: AS-232, Marine & Family Annex. Bring the family and enjoy a movie and popcorn in a family friendly zone. Free and open to all authorized EFMP families. Call 449-4894 for more information or to register.

  • 0900: Learn to Sail 2-Day Basic Class: Gottschalk Marina. Receive U.S. Sailing Certification upon completion of course. Open to authorized patrons age 18+.   • 0900: JOB FAIR!! Child Development Program: Bldg 842, Stone Street Youth Pavilion. Children, Youth & Teen Programs and Marine Corps Community Services will be holding on-site interviews for Child Development Program Assistants, starting salary $10.95. Come dressed for success! Applicants must be 18 years or older and need to bring a copy of your High School Diploma or GED with you.
