Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day to all of you! I am thankful to live within the military community and thankful for all the other military spouses that are selflessly supporting the causes of our America by being willing to move (sometimes ALOT), by being willing to "set up shop" and carry on wherever Uncle Sam deems necessary, by playing single parent while also finding the strength to get through the days while your loved one is away, by sacrificing roots or living close to family, by growing a "military family" and supporting them as if they were your own, by learning how to fix lawnmowers and close on houses and move and juggle jobs and parenting single-handedly. You are never forgotten!

This day is not only about gratitude for holding down the homefront while our loved ones are deployed, but also time to remember those spouses that have supported you or you have supported while your servicemember was gone.

In the military, the spouse network is such a tightly knit community. We have "deployment buddies" we can call any hour of the day or night for help, for a laugh, or for a strong, supportive shoulder to cry on.  We bring breakfast (or lunch...or dinner...or all of them!)  to neighbors who are sitting outside checking off boxes for TMO. We trust each other - if only because it takes a certain kind of person to live this life! We have yard clean-up parties, house clean up parties, painting parties, and more when spouses are away. When our friends' spouses are deployed, we sometimes feel like we've adopted more children and it's all okay because it never fails that when we need help, there's a fellow military spouse out there to help.

I am thankful for all the military spouses out there. It's an interesting lifestyle and it likely wouldn't be possible without such a giving network of spouses. Cheers!

A Victory for America..."We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail" G.W. Bush

Being an American is a beautiful thing, every day, but today it just may be a bit sweeter. In the wee hours of the morning, President Obama announced to our nation that we'd gotten the head of the snake. Osama Bin Laden was found on a compound in Pakistan by US Special Forces and was killed in the ensuing fire fight. The special forces team took custody of Bin Laden's body.

My hope is that this victory will bring some peace and some closure to the families of the victims of 9/11 and help our warriors validate some of their scars. This day has been a long time coming. It does not belong to the current President, or the past President, or the warriors that were on that compound in Pakistan. It has been a 10 year fight and this victory belongs to every warrior that took the fight to al-Qaeda, every family that spent days praying for their warrior and for our nation - that justice would be served.

Security levels have been heightened. We do not know what these extremists will do now that their leader is gone, but we are ready. In the words of G.W. Bush "...no matter how long it takes, justice will be served."
